Kevin Beaver is an information security consultant, writer, professional speaker, and expert witness with over 28 years of experience in IT - the last 22 of which he has dedicated to information security. Before starting his consulting practice, Principle Logic, in 2001, Kevin served in various information technology and security roles for several healthcare, e-commerce, financial firms, educational institutions, and consulting organizations. He specializes in performing independent security assessments and has appeared as an expert on CNN television and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur Magazine, Fortune Small Business, Men's Health, Women's Health, and Inc. Magazine's technology site IncTechnology.com. His work has also been referenced by the PCI Security Standards Council in their Data Security Standard Wireless Guidelines.

Kevin has literally written the book on HIPAA compliance in his highly-popular The Practical Guide to HIPAA Privacy and Security Compliance. He has also authored/co-authored 11 additional books including the best-selling Hacking For Dummies as well as Point-of-Sale Security For Dummies, Hacking Wireless Networks For Dummies, Next-Generation IPS For Dummies, PCI Cardholder Data Protection For Dummies, Securing the Mobile Enterprise For Dummies, and Laptop Encryption For Dummies. In addition, Kevin is technical editor of the books CISSP For Dummies, 5th edition and Network Security For Dummies as well as over a dozen books and whitepapers.

Kevin has written 37 whitepapers and over one thousand articles and is a regular contributor of information security content for TechTarget's SearchSecurity.com, Ziff Davis' Toolbox.com, and IBM's SecurityIntelligence.com. In addition, Kevin has presented at seminars and conferences hundreds of times and has been a top-rated speaker at shows for Gartner, RSA, SecureWorld Expo, ISSA, IDC, ISACA, The IIA, and TechTarget.

Kevin earned his bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering Technology from Southern College of Technology and his master's degree in Management of Technology from Georgia Tech. He also holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification which he obtained in 2001.
