Overview:

We will explore the statistics involved with protecting PHI, discuss their effectiveness, discuss breach numbers, causes of breaches, etc. We will also examine how to mitigate the risks to your organization. We will also discuss effective staff training. Having a bad training is actually worse that having no training, and we will discuss the critical components that all employees should know and understand.

Why should you attend: To learn how effective HIPAA has been, currently is, and, barring any changes, may be in the future. We will also examine some very public data breaches that have involved PHI. We will also provide some solutions to reduce the risks to you to better help you do what is necessary to prevent a breach from happening to you.

Obtaining Certificate of Credit

Colorado Foundation for Medical Care (CFMC) hosts an online activity evaluation system, certificate and outcomes measurement process. Following the activity, you must link to CFMC's online site (link below) to complete the evaluation form in order to receive your certificate of credit. Once the evaluation form is complete and submitted, you will be automatically sent a copy of your certificate via email. Please note, participants must attend the entire activity to receive all types of credit. Continuing Education evaluation and request for certificates will be accepted up to 60 days post activity date. CFMC will keep a record of attendance on file for 6 years.

Speaker Profile
Tom Dumez has more than 13 years of records management experience. He started Prime Compliance earlier in 2013 in an effort to provide a ‘real world’ employee HIPAA training program to both business associates and covered entities. Tom has spoken at many conferences, educational workshops, and seminars across the US, London, and Guam.
